Tryouts August 1 for New 12U Tournament Team in 2022

The Andover Girls Softball League is excited to announce plans to field its first-ever 12U Tournament Team in 2022. This town club team is the next evolution for Andover Softball and is intended to give players an experience that will complement—not replace—our spring, summer, and fall seasons and allow them to build skills and chemistry in a more competitive league while surrounded by their friends!

Players with birthdays in 2009 and 2010 and later are invited to try out for the Tournament Team. We are looking to build a team of 12-14 players, with 3-4 pitchers and 2-3 catchers.

Our current plan is to hold practice two days a week at an indoor facility on the Andover/Tewksbury line starting in November. We would take December off and get back at it in January 2022. We will aim to play four to six weekend tournaments in the spring and summer of 2022.

The team will be coached by AGSL’s Michelle Collins along with experienced assistants who will help players grow their individual and team skills. Coach Michelle pitched for Andover High School’s softball team; coached pitchers for the AHS varsity and junior varsity teams; and coached club teams for Extra Innings in Tewksbury. As part of AGSL, she developed the 8U program, and she has worked with many of our 12U girls as part of our very popular pitching clinics this past spring.

We plan to hold an evaluation on Sunday, August 1 on the AHS Varsity Field. Pitchers and catchers tryouts will be held from 5:00-6:00 with evaluations for all players at 6 PM (arriving at 5:45). If your player can’t make that date, please coordinate another time with Matt Naffah ( Once we complete evaluations, we will send out a link for registration and deposits. Estimated cost will be $1,500.

We know players have many options when it comes to Club Ball, and by having a town club team our hope is it will allow our girls to gain experience while playing with their friends. We also want to provide an option for those girls who are looking for flexibility during the Winter, since we know many play other sports. And since AGSL is running the team, it will eliminate scheduling conflicts between Club Ball commitments and AGSL’s spring, summer, and fall seasons.

If you have any questions, or would like to schedule another day for evaluation, please contact Matt Naffah at
